Insurance for your child

Many parents mistakenly believe the board insures their children for losses resulting from accidents and that gives rise to claims when they learn this is not true. Many of these claims can be prevented through effective communication to parents about the benefits of the Student Accident Insurance policy. This is a LOW-COST policy that is reviewed regularly by the board’s benefit consultants and provides good value for the money.

The “Limited Plan” provides coverage for school days only and can be purchased for $3.50 per year per child and includes a 10-year unlimited dental benefit feature.

Chartwells Committed to Ontario Food and Beverage Policy

School is where students spend much of their time and they need nutritious food to grow, be active and develop into healthy adults. Selling nutritious food and beverages is one of the ways we can help make school a healthier place for students.

Chartwells (a division of Compass Group Canada) is proud to be the primary foodservice provider at our school. To help us prepare for the new   fall food policy, Chartwells, has kid-tested recipes and reformulated menu options to ensure our nutrition standards are in place. Student feedback has played a huge role in helping Chartwells construct menus that include healthy, innovative options. Items like pizza made with turkey pepperoni, fresh vegetables and a whole grain crust, fresh deli sandwiches, salads, pasta and rice bowls with fresh vegetables topped with authentic, spicy and flavourful sauces. Students say they like diverse flavours – Asian, Italian, Greek, Tex Mex and Middle Eastern and such options will dominate the new menus.

All menus and meals will come with an additional ingredient – value! Meal combos are priced to encourage students to visit the cafeteria for breakfast, mid-morning snacks and lunch.   Check out the cafeteria this September and see for yourself how committed Chartwells is to offering healthy eating options to students.

Excited to be coming home!!

As the new Principal at Valley Heights SS, I’m excited to get to know the students, the staff, and the community.  I grew up in Langton and in Delhi before leaving for university way back when.  I have been working in the Brantford/Paris area as Vice Principal at Pauline Johnson CVS and Paris District HS for the past number of years.  Before that, I taught all grades from grades 4 through to 12 at Boston PS, Townsend CS and at Waterford District High School.

I’d like to extend a welcome to Ms. Rudi Atkinson who joins the administration as the new Vice Principal at VHSS.  Ms. Atkinson has been at VHSS for the past 5 years working as the Guidance Counsellor but will assume this new role in September.

With the 40th Birthday bash just around the corner, VHSS continues to be a pillar within the Grand Erie District School Board.

I’d like to remind everyone about our Pre-Registration on August 31 starting at 2:30 pm and am hoping to talk to as many people as possible!  Go BEARS!!!
